Frances-Anne Solomon's A Winter Tale takes the worldwide film festival circuit by storm!

TORONTO: September 13, 2007

After opening the 2007 ReelWorld Film Festival, taking home several awards, and receiving rave reviews, Frances-Anne Solomon's feature film A Winter Tale has been invited to travel the globe - screening at film festivals around the world and making waves in several major cities. On Thursday, September 13, 2007 A Winter Tale will make a quick stop back in Toronto for a special screening at NFB Mediatheque from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Embarking on her international festival tour, Solomon's first stop was at the Montreal World Film Festival. After three screenings A Winter Tale made headlines in the Montreal Gazette, as critics hailed the film as an "intensely powerful story" and a "must-see fiction feature".

Following that, Solomon returned to Toronto to participate in the ReelWorld Film Festival's Indie Film Lounge. Sponsored by Telefilm Canada, the award-winning filmmaker spoke to a crowd of emerging directors at a case study series, highlighting her film's success in development and distribution.

Next, A Winter Tale heads to Canada's east coast for a screening at the 27th annual Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax. The film then heads south to Solomon's home town, as it opens the Trinidad & Tobago International Film Festival on Wednesday, September 19th. Held in Port of Spain, the T&T Film Festival is one of the most important showcases of contemporary Caribbean cinema in the region.

Solomon's last stop will be in Bradford, UK where A Winter Tale is set to close the 13th annual Bite the Mango film festival, one of Europe's leading festivals of world cinema.

During each of her Canadian stops, Solomon and her team will meet with local community partners in anticipation of the upcoming TALK IT OUT initiative - a nationwide anti-violence tour of the film, scheduled to take place early next year.

TALK IT OUT, a CaribbeanTales project, supported by Telefilm Canada, is targeted at youth between the ages of 12-25. The tour will use A Winter Tale to stimulate discussion and awareness of youth violence and gun culture in Canada.

This innovative program was launched at the Workman Theatre, in Toronto on July 15th. In partnership with several local community centres, colleges and grass-roots organizations serving youth, TALK IT OUT will soon be announcing the first series of screenings and discussions in the tour.

A Winter Tale tells the emotional story of a Black Men's support group that begins to meet at a local Caribbean Takeaway Restaurant, after a 10-year-old child is killed by a stray bullet. It features a powerful ensemble cast led by Canadian stars Peter Williams and Michael Miller, and Caribbean icons Leonie Forbes and Dennis "Sprangalang" Hall.

Frances-Anne Solomon is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, director and producer whose credits include Lord Have Mercy! (VisionTV, 2003), Peggy Su! (BBC Films, 1997), What My Mother Told Me (Channel 4, 1995) and Bideshi (British Film Institute, 1994). She is the president and artistic director of the two companies she founded: Leda Serene Films and CaribbeanTales and has also worked as a film and television drama producer for the BBC.
