Sway’s divalicious winter issue features Iman, Measha Brueggergosman and the incomparable Chaka Khan

TORONTO: November 29, 2007

A new look, an increase in both content and ad support and overwhelmingly positive reader feedback have made 2007 a banner year for Sway. Now the magazine closes out the year with their biggest and best issue yet, featuring cover diva Chaka Khan. The issue will hit newsstands on November 30th, 2007.

“2007 has been an incredible year for Sway,” says the magazine’s publisher, Cheryl Phillips, who was also recently appointed to the position of Vice President, Print and Online Classifieds for the Toronto Star. “And 2008 promises to be even better! We have some amazing stories lined up for our loyal readers. You’ll have to keep reading to see what we have in store.”

“This is our fourth issue since we redesigned last spring,” adds editorial director Alan A. Vernon. “And with each one, Sway gets better and better. Even sales are up 30 per cent with this issue, which is a real testament to the fact that Sway is really catching on with readers and advertisers alike.”

The Winter issue features a special 12-page travel report on Jamaica, focusing on everything from food and accommodation to art and even wedding planning. Also included are articles on hip-hop-infused rock music (or is that rock-infused hip hop?); a Naughty or Nice fashion spread featuring the holiday season’s hottest styles; the growing trend of gospel aerobics and a back-page discussion of the ‘N’ word by celebrated journalist Donovan Vincent.

“We’re thrilled that Chaka Khan agreed to be our cover girl for the holiday issue,” says Vernon, “not only because she’s a legend, but because of her strong commitment to issues like educating youth – something that Sway is totally behind.”

Published by Star Media Group, a division of Toronto Star Newspapers Limited, Sway’s mandate is to fill the void in Canadian magazine publishing for a smart, stylish lifestyle magazine directed at Canada’s black community. While publications aimed at the community are so often about struggle, Sway is all about success and accomplishment – a celebration of all that African, Caribbean and black Canadians have achieved, and continue to achieve.
