Stuart Knight’s controversial new show, Shift, will set you free from everything you thought was true
Speaker, actor, producer and writer extraordinaire Stuart Knight is scheduled to return to Toronto with his controversial new show, Shift, running from June 7 to 21, 2007 at The Theatre Centre in Toronto.
Shift is based on the idea that who we say we are is not, in fact, who we are. In the course of the 90-minute show, Knight takes the audience on an exploration of personal identity, challenging our assumptions about who we believe ourselves to be, while keeping the audience laughing throughout. Knight believes that it is time to rethink the way we live our lives, and Shift is the vehicle he is using to spread the word.
“Our society teaches people to bottle everything up and keep your problems to yourself,” said Knight. “It’s not healthy! I like to think of my show as therapy for people who are afraid of therapy.”
Shift is not strictly a play, and not strictly a musical. The show features song, sketches, film, beatboxing and slam poetry and deals with issues ranging from marriage, friendship and work to death, sex and religion.
“People have told me that after seeing my show, they’ve left their marriage, quit their job, quit school, gone back to school,” said Knight. “I want people to think about where they are in their lives, how they got there, and if they’re really where they want to be.”
Stuart Knight is an “out of the box” renegade entrepreneur, a true motivator who embraces any opportunity to change the world. Through his production company, KnightFlight Productions – which he started shortly after graduating from the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University – Knight has produced his previous shows, A Whole New Perspective and its follow-up, I DECIDE. His shows have been seen by over half a million people across North America.
Knight has also produced his life-changing workshop, The Art of Conversation, where he gives people the tools to have conversations they never imagined they could have. He is currently writing a book on the Art of Conversation that will be targeted to a youth audience. Knight’s self-titled CD, Stuart Knight – It’s Been Decided, is an urban conglomeration of slam poems, songs and sketches that are meant to inspire audiences and take them on a journey toward their dreams.
