Up-and-coming Toronto film director Jordan Barker is set to take the movie world by storm with his latest feature The Marsh, starring Academy Award winner Forrest Whitaker.

TORONTO: March 22, 2007

Award-winning artist, actor and director, Jordan Barker possesses a talent and dedication that has made him one of the most buzzed about filmmakers in Toronto. His latest project, The Marsh, is a psychological thriller starring Academy Award winner Forrest Whitaker. The film will open nationwide on April 6th, 2007. Media can attend a special press screening at ---, on Tuesday April 3rd, 2007.

This multi-million dollar feature debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last spring, and has recently been purchased for worldwide distribution by Sony Pictures.

Set in a remote rural area, The Marsh tells the story of a well-known children's author who rents a house in the country, in an effort to quiet the disturbing nightmares that have been plaguing her. But these spooky dreams become the least of her worries when she finds herself at the center of a ghostly mystery, and must turn to a supernatural detective (Whitaker) for help. This spine-tingling film also stars Gabrielle Anwar and Justin Louis.

The Marsh is a follow-up to Jordan's first feature film, My Brother's Keeper, which was released theatrically and awarded Best of Festival at both the Houston International and Lexington Film Festivals.

At 30 years old, Jordan's resume boasts extensive movie experience. In 1997, he began working for Film Effects as a digital artist and animator - something that gave Jordan his first real taste of feature films.

"Film Effects was my boot camp…I'm very grateful to the team for laying down the foundation for what I do today."

At Film Effects Jordan worked on the digital effects for Brian De Palma's film Snake Eyes, and the title sequence in Vincenzo Natali's Cube. In 1997, Jordan was also awarded the task of producing the opening animation at the Toronto International Film Festival's gala screening.

Jordan is also the president and founder of Gearshift Studios - a production company which he built from the ground up while studying film in university. Gearshift was founded on changing the paradigms of marketing firms, ad agencies, design, production, and post-production studios, and puts them all under one roof. Jordan has worked with companies such as Air Canada, SpinMaster Toys, Pepsi, MuchMusic, Bluenotes, FedEx, and Ritz Carlton, and is starting work on promo spots for the upcoming Festival Towers film center and condo project.

An accomplished actor, Jordan Barker has played leading roles on both the big and small screens. Some of his acting credits include Hollywoodland, Guilt by Association, CTV's The Eleventh Hour and UPN's Kevin Hill.
