Canadian Actress and LA based Jenny Levine – who played Valerie Harris in the hit series 24 – stars in the upcoming film Baby Blues, the feature debut of Canadian director Dylan Pearce. A story of loss, loneliness, hope and ultimately, redemption, Baby Blues premieres in Windsor on October 3rd, 2007 before opening in 11 more cities across Canada this January.
“I am so beyond impressed with the dedication, sensitivity and skills of this young group of filmmakers,” said Levine about the film. “The fact that this sensitive, character-driven story is what a group of young male filmmakers chose to dedicate the first three years of their professional careers to – rather than a special effects extravaganza or a testosterone-fuelled adventure – speaks volumes about who they are and what they want to accomplish in filmmaking.”
Baby Blues tells the story of Josie Patterson (Levine), a quiet, guarded woman who is attempting to start her life over after a tragic incident. Hiding from her past, Josie forms an unlikely friendship with a kind-hearted co-worker and a romance with a young drifter musician. As Josie begins to realize that she can't hide forever, she dreams of being reunited with her son. Josie, however, must also cope with the prospect that by finding her son, she will reawaken her past.
“We fail, we make mistakes, we get stuck and we can’t find our way out right away,” said Levine about her troubled character. “It’s only then, when you think you’re in your darkest hour, that you find your true character and somehow the ability to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and start again.”
Comparing her role in Baby Blues to her other acting experiences, Levine said, “this particular project is unique because it’s a passion project. It came together because it attracted creative people who were determined to see their shared vision through. That’s a special kind of commitment and I appreciated it every day of the shoot and every day since.”
