BuskerFest set to dazzle Toronto, August 24 to 27, 2006

TORONTO: July 18, 2006

The 7th Annual BuskerFest will dazzle the historic St. Lawrence Market district once again this year, as buskers from all over the world storm the streets in support of Epilepsy Toronto. Mind readers, aerial dancers, fire breathers, body painters and Alakazam, The Human Knot will shock and awe crowds on Front Street between Jarvis Street and Scott Street from August 24 to 27, 2006.

Scotiabank, who last year donated $130,000 in support of Epilepsy Toronto and BuskerFest, has returned as a proud sponsor of the event for the seventh year in a row.

"We're so thrilled that Scotiabank has been with us since day one of BuskerFest," says Geoff Bobb, executive director of Epilepsy Toronto. "With their help, this festival has grown in leaps and bounds over the last seven years and we are able to continue to provide a variety of programs and services to 40,000 people in Toronto living with epilepsy."

Epilepsy Toronto has been helping people living with epilepsy and their families for the past 50 years. The non-profit organization provides support services, information, advocacy and public education to the Greater Toronto Area. Because one in every 100 Canadians experiences some form of epilepsy, Epilepsy Toronto is committed to promoting independence and optimal quality of life for people living with epilepsy and their families.

This year's BuskerFest promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever, with the top buskers from Canada, Australia, France, the Netherlands and Japan taking over Front Street to wow audiences with their jaw-dropping talents.

Indijika uses sticks, chains, musical instruments, some fire and a flying saucer to create a stunning live music and fire performance act; Masaji practices the ancient art of Amesaiku: creating edible art from balls of rice syrup; and Toronto Aerial Dance Theatre will awe audiences with their astonishing displays of aerial dance. The St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood will overflow with singing, dancing, art, magic and acrobatics. With so much to see, the 7th Annual BuskerFest promises something for everyone!

BuskerFest attracts more than 200,000 visitors to the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood every year. Since its inception, the festival has raised more than a half-million dollars in support of Epilepsy Toronto.
