A revolutionary magazine, BOBBi, a new women’s glossy that shatters the mold of all other women’s magazines
TORONTO: August 11, 2006
There is a new magazine for women, called BOBBi, hitting the newsstands this August 14th, 2006. From the publisher of the amazingly successful and 100% Canadian Urban Male Magazine, comes a publication that will change the way womens magazines are written.
For starters, of the thousands of women’s magazines on the market, BOBBi will be the first to feature a man on every cover. And the man on the front of the premiere issue just happens to be the Sexiest Man Alive, Matthew McConaughey, with a full 8 page spread of Matthew inside, as well as photo layouts of other international heartthrobs such as Jude Law, Ashton Kutcher, and Johnny Depp.
Up to now, women’s magazines tended to be eighty pages of advertising about cosmetics and fashion, surrounding fifty pages of editorial about cosmetics and fashion. But BOBBi recognizes that women today deserve more than that. Editor Jen Hooey puts it succinctly, “Sure, girls want to know what Paris Hilton is up to, and what Sarah Jessica Parker is wearing, but they also want to know what to do with their lives, and what’s going on in the world.”
BOBBi appeals to that modern woman- a woman, who works hard, plays hard and knows that, with a few dreams and some inspiration, she can achieve anything. The goal of BOBBi is to treat females with the respect they have earned, and to provide them with a magazine that touches every aspect of their lives.
The magazine acknowledges that women have a diverse array of interests, similar to men. The fall issue features stories such as, A Girls Guide to Poker, A Girl's Guide to Motorcycles and the low-down on some of the coolest new video games.
"Right now girls are doing everything that guys are doing and there hasn't been a magazine addressing that", said publisher Abbis Mahmoud. "There is a big void in the sort of magazine that appeals to the everyday girl. BOBBi is different and fills this gap".

BOBBi provides women with a magazine that speaks to them on a number of different levels. While many women's magazines focus solely on fashion and beauty, Mahmoud wanted to do something out of the ordinary. He wanted to create a magazine that satisfies the many interests and desires of females, by offering stories that evoke emotion and provide substance.
While girls can always appreciate a beautiful dress and enjoy learning aboutthe latest shade of eye shadow for fall, BOBBi gives them that, but much, much more. Career advice, with a story on teaching overseas. An article on girls playing poker. A buyer’s guide to motorcycles accompanies a history of women on two wheels.
But, BOBBi doesn't stop there. It pushes boundaries, by placing a spotlight on women's issues from around the world, such as sex workers in Amsterdam's red light district and female genital mutilation.
Along with these serious issues, BOBBi also retains a lighthearted and fun spirit. Readers will find articles on why men do what they do and a spread entitled Guy Candy - great reading for a lazy summer day. Still, women can get all the big to gossip and, of course, become acquainted with ubiquitous celebrities.
Distributors response to the premiere issue has been overwhelming and BOBBi is available across Canada.
