Author Lisa Summers taps into the frustrations of single women everywhere, with her new novel Men Are Like Mocha Lattes - an entertaining addition to the world of "chick lit"
A "singleton" for longer than she cares to remember, Lisa Summers understands all too well the desire to flee upon being asked the question "Why aren't you married?" Her new novel Men Are Like Mocha Lattes takes a comical look at modern dating, where men have become as disposable as coffee cups. Men Are Like Mocha Lattes will hit bookstores across Canada in August 2007.
Written in the spirit of Bridget Jones's Diary, Summers' novel gives readers an entertaining, honest look into the life of a successful, single 29-year-old woman on a quest for "Mr. Right".
Men Are Like Mocha Lattes tells the story of Lindsay Breyer, a bright young lawyer who is determined to meet and marry Mr. Right before she turns 30. Heartbroken by the announcement of her ex-boyfriend's engagement, Lindsay decides to leave her job to study at teacher's college in New Zealand. As she navigates a new culture on the other side of the world, Lindsay meets a cast of comical characters along the way, including a seductive Mr. Maybe, an over-bearing would-be mother-in-law, a jealous ex-wife, and a lovelorn roommate.
The book's catchy title serves as a metaphor for the commercialization of relationships today - where many people approach relationships the same way they order a coffee at Starbucks - and have detailed lists of the ingredients, or qualities, they want in a partner.
Men Are Like Mocha Lattes is "smart chick-lit" geared to a Canadian audience. A feel-good story with an uplifting ending, Summers wanted to create a novel that would make single women feel good about themselves, regardless of where they are in their lives.
