Canadian Humanitarian Organization JAMOP (Just a Minute of Peace) is set to launch their global peace campaign which aims to unite the world and empower people to stand up for peace and human rights. The campaign will begin with a local and internationally linked concert, taking place at Steam Whistle Brewery's, The Roundhouse, this Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 7pm.
The downtown concert will join with other countries on January 23rd including Jamaica and Colombia with supporting campaigns in England, India, Israel, Italy and the United States. Concerts can be viewed on My Space and YouTube. Toronto will feature performances by highly recognized artists from each country respectively; including participating host Dan Aykroyd. Launch initiatives will commence with a series of public awareness displays that include airplane signage during rush hour and citywide sticker displays all this week. There will be continuous worldwide events leading up to the 07/07/07 worldwide concert.
Participating in the Canadian concert will be Colombian artist Ilona, Indian artist Bikram Ghosh, Israeli artist David Broza, Jamaican artist Tony Rebel, Jordan artist Hani Naser, Palestinian artists Genero and Canadian band High Holy Days, among others. Similar concerts will take place at venues in each participating country.
The campaign, designed to create awareness for the 07/07/07 epic 24-hour worldwide concert uniting countries in a World Peace Movement, which will be the "Olympics" of music for peace and human rights and will inaugurate an internationally celebrated minute of peace taking place at 11:11. The movement has already been supported and praised by a number of World leaders, artists, Nobel laureates, and spiritual leaders that include The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The January launch will begin the six month quest to bring together more countries, leaders and artists while building awareness of the World Peace Movement set to take place in July.
